The hippest shops in Charlotte aren’t opening in SouthPark or Northlake malls. They’re on the streets of South End in 400-square-foot micro-shops and shiny new storefronts.

In a city that's seen thousands upon thousands of apartments spring up in recent years, it's rare to find a product that truly stands out as something different.

The Centro Railyard development brought a unique apartment product to South End. Two-thirds of the 91 apartments are studio units that measure about 400 square feet. 

Two Charlotte real estate firms are preparing to break ground on their second apartment project in the South End area after closing on the land Thursday afternoon.

The VanLandingham Estate in Plaza Midwood — built in 1913 — will have new life as an event venue after a major restoration project is completed.

A project in South End that has mostly smaller-than-average studios — sometimes called micro-units — has begun pre-leasing.

This South End project is looking to curate local retailers hoping to crack into the market with small-scale brick-and-mortar locations.

A private equity real estate investment firm has closed on a retail property in uptown Charlotte.
